About orto

Dipl.-Architect, studied in Berlin and founded the digital agency Lucid Berlin GmbH directly after graduation, leading it for 14 years. There, he developed digital platforms for clients such as GIZ, the Heinrich Böll Foundation, and WWF, earning recognition with the Global Security Award. He gained experience in surveying and digitization through his architectural firm MUH. As Co-Founder and Co-CEO of orto, he now develops and researches solutions that connect digital surveying with the built environment.

Alexander holds an M.A. in Design and a B.A. in Economics. After his studies, he gained professional experience in the UK and Germany, first in strategy consulting for digital companies and later as a division manager in business consulting. He supported the founding of multinational corporations and coordinated cross-industry innovation consortia. His focus is on leveraging digital market opportunities and implementing European legislation for sustainable production. As Co-Founder and Co-CEO of orto, Alexander works and conducts research to establish the foundations of a circular economy for the construction industry.

Stefan holds a degree in communication design, has more than 20 years of professional experience in web design and front-end programming and has made a name for himself as a creative director, UX/UI designer and developer. He has been conceptualising and designing UX/UI solutions for digital media since 2015 and his clients include renowned institutions and companies such as the BMW Art Department, Porsche, the Vodafone Institute for Society and Communications and Lucid.Berlin GmbH. As a founding member of orto, Stefan creates the digital product design and the underlying design concept with technical precision.

Dipl.-Architect, Expert in Surveying Technology and Plan Data Extraction. Kareen earned her architecture degree from TU Berlin and gained over ten years of experience as a freelance architect, working across scales from product design to building planning. As a specialist in surveying – from manual methods to LiDAR scans – she integrates technological solutions with the demands of complex construction projects. At orto, she is responsible for precise existing-condition assessments and develops tailored strategies for efficient project workflows.

B.A. Timber Engineering. Coco is part of the orto surveying team and specializes in timber construction. He is currently in the final phase of his studies at the University of Sustainable Development in Eberswalde. As the use of wood and wood-based materials in both new construction and existing buildings requires a high level of material expertise, he supports on-site building analysis at orto with his expertise.

Dipl.-Communication Scientist. With over 15 years of experience as an entrepreneur and consultant, Jan has developed successful communication and sales strategies for government institutions, multinational companies, multilateral organizations, and international NGOs. Jan lives and works in Bogotá (Colombia), from where he not only translates his market development expertise into opportunities for clients in the European market but also serves as our primary contact for clients and partners in both South and North America.

Dipl.-Computer Scientist. Matthias is an experienced Technical Director and Software Developer with extensive expertise in database design, cloud technologies, and SEO strategies. With over 18 years of experience in database design, data integration (ETL), data warehousing, and the development of reporting and dashboard tools, he has successfully completed numerous complex projects. Additionally, he has 11 years of experience in setting up and maintaining cloud servers. As a researcher and lead developer at orto, he focuses on translating rich 3D datasets into WebGL-based web applications.

Dmitriy holds a master's degree in mathematics and is an experienced IT specialist with several years of experience as a programmer and expert in web development, machine learning and DevOps. He specialises in the architecture and development of backend systems, the implementation of machine learning solutions, database management and 3D programming.
